March Madness

April 3rd, 2009 Posted in News | No Comments »

Well we returned to a couple of our usual venues to play during the March Madness. On Friday, March 20th, we returned to the Dark Horse Tavern where everyone watched Ohio St. get upset in the BB tournament. This gave everyone the blues and helped to spur a good time after the game. Thanks to Mom and Dad who came out to the show and Mom brought nearly a dozen people from work to hear us play. Thanks, also to Gina and Linda for hanging out all night and especially Linda who got up and jammed with us on one. Special thanks to photographer Chris A. for doing a photo shoot of the band and for the nice write up on his website about the band. The next night we returned to the Pair-a-dice in Goshen and as usual had a great night of blues and rock-n-roll. Steve W. and the Pair-a-Dice were on TV that night (Cash Explosion) which added extra energy for the night. Congratualtions Steve! We will be back again later this month. And lastly, I played a writer’s night for the folks at the Roadhouse Karoke and party room. This was a very nice event and Dick and Vicki W. did a very nice job of putting this show together. They feature several to many local artist doing a very wide range of musical styles, and they will be doing this every other month or so. Come out and support live local original music. Thanks to Dennis C. for inviting me up to blow some harp with him. I will be performing almost every weekend in April, so come out and support one of the shows. See ya there.

February Blues

March 17th, 2009 Posted in News | No Comments »

Well I know it’s March already, but I must blog about the Feb. Blues shows. On Feb. 6th, we returned to the Mansion Hill Tavern which was kinda our home base last year. We had a good turn out and thanks always to all the usual suspects who come out and support us here. My 73 year old Aunt Barb has come out and supported us here everytime we have played here and she deserves a medal for putting up with our loud brand of Blues and Rock-n-Roll. My cousins Peg, Tom, Pat, Kim, Joe, Marion, Nichole, Joe M. and Peg’s son Pat all came out as usual. So did Joe from Progress and his girlfriend Annette and Diane J. and her friend. Thanks everyone for supporting what we do. The next weekend we headed to Cleveland for two shows at the Fat Fish Blue. The band was alittle loud for the dinner crowd on Saturday night, but thanks to all the folks who supported us by buying a CD. Thanks to Rich (Bryan’s friend) who came out and supported us. The show on Sunday was a whole lot quieter (acoustic). We had a magical moment on Sunday when we took our break and Tim Arnold suggested we rub the Robert Lockwood Jr. plague that was on the front of the stage. Robert performed on this stage for the last 4 years of his life and Fat Fish Blue had dedicated their stage to him. Tim thought by rubbing the plague we might get some mojo. Soon after rubbing the plague, we had a 65 year old black man standing in front of us dressed in a bright red suit from head to toe. He reached in his pocket and I thought he was going to pull out a contract for us to sign with the devil. Instead he pulled out a few harmonicas and this man could play. He joined us on stage for several numbers and we had a good time jamming with the fellow. Turns out his name is Crazy Marvin and his band was scheduled to perform there the following weekend. Anyway, thanks Marvin for teaching us white boys a lesson in the blues. We finished out the month by returning to the Pair-a-Dice in Goshen, OH and it looks like this may become our home base this year as we will be returning there again later this month. Thanks to Steve W. for having us back so often. Thanks to April for purchasing a CD. Come out and have some fun with us. Hope to see you soon.

Blues @ the Pair-a-Dice

February 3rd, 2009 Posted in News | 1 Comment »

Well, we are already 3 gigs into the new year and what a great way to start the year with the band. We had a great night at the Pair-a-Dice in Goshen this past weekend. The crowd was receptive and danced alot. Thanks to Steve W. for being such a great host; this was the first time we played here and we are already returning on Sat. Feb. 28th. Thanks to Cindy R. and Kristine W. from Triton for coming out and having a good time. Also, it was a pleasure to have Tim Arnold sit in with us on guitar and he helped provide a great night of blues. Thanks to Betsy who filmed a view of the songs and hopefully we will be able to get some of that footage onto the website soon. Looking forward to returning so soon and hope you will come out and have some fun with us when we return with some more blues.

Blues @ Taffy’s Coffee Co.

January 31st, 2009 Posted in News | 2 Comments »

Yes, it was cold last night and my guitars showed that when I began my set. Not only did I break a string on the very first song, but both guitars refused to stay in tune. As the show wore on, it did get better, at least I think it did. First let me say thanks to Chris A. for not only opening the show, but for introducing me to Taffy’s and its owner Manfred. Chris is an awesome photographer who has been gracious enough to photograph some of my shows. I first met Chris while opening for Johnny A. last year, and we have become fast friends. He provided some quiet and sweet instrumentals along with some loud and rancous rock n roll. Later in the night, he added to the fun by joining in on my song Reefer Blues. Thanks to Manfred for providing a place such as this, for musicians like myself and others, to perform in an intimate atmosphere where the folks really listen to the music and pay attention to what’s going on. Thanks to all the Taffy regulars who came out and supported both Chris and myself and also thanks to George, who has come and seen me perform multiple times @ the Canal St. Tavern, for providing the tasty glass of red wine. Lastly, I would like to thank my friend Jason M. who continues to support what I do. Jason has come to both shows I’ve done @ Taffy’s; he drives from Fairfield, OH but has also came to support shows @ the Brazenhead Irish Pub and the Mansion Hill Tavern. It is because of friends like him that I continue to sing Baby I’m a Rich Man. I will be returning to Taffy’s on Friday, June 12th, 2009. This will be the beginning of the summer, so hopefully my guitars will stay in tune. Hope to see you there.

Blues @ the Dark Horse

January 23rd, 2009 Posted in News | 2 Comments »

Well I know we are already 3 weeks into the new year, but last night we performed our first show of the year and it started with a great night of acoustic blues and rock-n-roll. First, thanks to Sharen for bringing my guitar out to me. Thanks to Mike C. for continually coming out and supporting what we do. Mike has been to shows @ the Brazenhead Irish Pub, the Tumbleweed Connection, the Canal St. Tavern and now the Dark Horse Tavern. Last night he brought his nephew Tony out and Tony stayed until the very end. Also my son Joe has continually come and supported his dad and brought his friend Zack F. Also, a special treat was seeing Harpoon from the Brown St. Breakdown there and he was gracious enough to come up and blow his harp on one with us. Great stuff! Thanks guys. Thanks also to Bryan Osborne who continually plays bass with me and always does an awesome job. A great musician and friend. A special thanks goes out to Frank (who I just met last night) for his unbelievable generosity. And lastly, thanks to the Dark Horse who continually allows us to come back and play. We will be returning there with the band on Friday, March 20th. Also, we will be playing for the next three weekends in a row, so check out the schedule and come out and support the blues.

End of year blues

January 14th, 2009 Posted in News | No Comments »

Well as usual I haven’t been blogging like I should. I will first blog about the end of the year and then add a blog about what’s coming up in 2009. I/we finished the year with a few shows that were really pretty darn good. First we did an acoustic show @ Canal St. Tavern back in November with Byan and Gary providing there usual great support for my acoustic blues set. Then Herbie Brown from the Brown St. Breakdown provided an awesome solo set that is rarely seen around town. Then Miss Lissa and Tom Rastaka provided another great acoustic set which was the first time they had performed together in this type of setting. We all got up for an all start blues jam after 3 great sets of acoustic blues. Thanks to all these performers who gave their time to provide great music and support our acoustic blues showcase including Eddie Miller from the Brown St. who also helped out on a few numbers. This show was not well attended but those that missed it missed a hellofa good show. Then in December the Band of Brothers returned to the Marietta Brewing Co. in Marietta, OH for some great fun right before the Christmas holiday. Everyone in Marietta was in the Christmas spirit and we had several singers get up and help us out. Thanks as always to Kevin and Chris for making sure we have a good crowd and a good time. And lastly, I finished the year with an acoustic show on New Years Eve @ the M Cafe in the Wingate Hotel in West Chester, OH. Thanks to Kenny for getting this gig booked at the last second. Thanks to Amy and her friend Cooper for hanging out all nite and to my son Joe and his girlfriend Amanda for coming out as well. Thanks also to Miss Lissa who came out and provided some great vocals. Looking forward to a great 2009 and we already have some great gigs booked.

September gigs

October 1st, 2008 Posted in News | 1 Comment »

The September shows were awesome. We have had lots of support and I can’t even begin to name all the folks that came to our shows. We had nearly 50 people show up for our Dark Horse Tavern show including Richard and his wife (a former student of mine), my son Joe and his friends, my nephew Matt and his buddy, Scott M. and his wife Kelly and lots of others. At the Mansion Hill Tavern show the next night, Mike and Missy showed up along with Diane J. and her friend (her first night out since Dennis T.’s accident), the normal casts of my cousins and Aunt and a special surprise from Maureen Mohr and her friends from Nashville who were in town for one night. Maureen sings with the group Bada Bing Bada Boom with my distant cousin Bob Dellaposta who I most recently  met and jammed with when our band went to Nashville back in July. And always, the folks down in California, KY are very gracious and generous to us everytime we play for them. Thanks to Robert and Julia for hosting such a great party. Lastly, I am especially looking forward to this weeks solo acoustic gig @ Taffy’s in Eaton, OH. This is a new venue for me and I haven’t played a solo acoustic show since opening for Johnny A. back in April at the Canal St. Tavern. Thanks to the photographer Chris A. who made the connect for me @ Taffy’s. Chris came to photo Johnny A. and was kind enough to shoot a few shots of me as well and suggested that I go to Eaton. Thanks everyone for your continued support. Keep playing the blues and hope to see you at the next gig.

Post summer blues

September 11th, 2008 Posted in News | 2 Comments »

As the summer comes to an end, I would like to thank some folks. First I wouldn’t be able to make all this happen without the Band of Brothers. Traveling around this summer has truely made us just that. We have been doing shows all summer with a revolving cast of guitar players which has made for some fresh sounds and spontaneous moments. But , lots of thanks to Bryan Osborne (bass) and Jack Krogman (drums) because they have been the steady rythmn section all year. The revolving cast of guitar players includes Gary “Guitar” Williams, Eli Pratt, Ed Tyson and my son, thanks guys. You guys have always come thru when the band really needed you to.  Our August shows were great shows and we will be returning to most of those places this month and later in the year. We started the summer off in California, KY and we will be returning there again to end the summer on Sat. Sept. 27th, we will be returning to the Dark Horse Tavern in Miamisburg, OH tomorrow night and returning to the Mansion Hill Tavern in Newport, Ky this Saturday night. Thanks to all those folks who continually support us by booking us back so often. Lastly, thanks to all the folks who have come to the shows and supported the music we play, by dancing, listening, buying us drinks and especially for purchasing the “Baby I’m a Rich Man” CD.  I/we hope you have enjoyed listening to it on your own after the shows. We hope to release a new CD later this year. Looking forward to this weekend and I hope we see you there.

summer of blues

July 30th, 2008 Posted in News | 1 Comment »

Well I apologize to those folks who have peeked in periodically to see if anything has been updated, but as ususal I’m way behind on my blogging. As most of you can see by now, we have an updated webdesign. Thanks to my son who always does an awesome job on keeping everything updated and new. There are now a couple video clips with an internet radio and a photo gallery. We will be adding photos from the summer shows real soon.  We will also be adding some different songs to the internet radio including old live tracks as well as newly recorded new songs to be forthcoming on an upcoming new CD.As far as the summer shows are concerned. We had a great time and appreciative crowd down in Marietta back in June. So much so that we will be returning there next weekend. First, on Friday nite @ The Marietta Brewing Co. and then on Saturday @ The Catfish Derby Days. Thanks to Kevin and Chris @ The Marietta Brewing Co. for having us back so soon and coordinating this date so that we could perform at the Catfish Derby Days. Next, we returned to our favorite home base; The Mansion Hill Tavern and performed an almost flawless show as we prepared for going to Nashville. Thanks to all the usual suspects who come out and support us here. We will be returning to home base again on Saturday August 16th and Saturday September 13th. Thanks to Kim for continually putting up with us and having us back so often. Three days later we performed at the legendary Bourbon St. Blues & Boogie Bar in Printer’s Alley in Nashville TN. Again, we had a blast with several surprise guests who jumped up and helped us out including my distant cousin Bob Dellaposta. Yes, there is another Bob Dellaposta who is a musician and raised three kids. How ironic! Anyway, he is an amazing horn player. He forced us all to step up our game that night. Check out his website @ my3kidsmusic.com. Thanks to mom & dad and my cousins Peg and Tom for making the trek to Nashville to support us.  Lastly, upon my return from Nashville, I was asked to do an interview with the Northern Ky Magazine to help promote the 20th anniversary celebration of the Mansion Hill Tavern. This was a truely professional event captured live for their TV audience. If you missed it that’s OK, because you can see the entire interview and performances on our website. Thanks to Lou Peluso (the owner of the Mansion Hill Tavern) for inviting me to do this and thanks to the folks at the Northern KY Magazine. Keep speading the news “The Blues ain’t nothin but a good man feelin bad”.
